Career advice you'll want to hear

Young professionals are often seek the best advice as they navigate their career paths. Advice can come from anywhere, or anyone, whether in be a leader you admire, career coach, friend, or partner, and sometimes with the right words at the right time major career accelerations happen. Here's the best advice I learned as a young professional which had a meaningful impact on my leadership development, build relationships, and even land my dream job.

"Run your own race"

Simply put, you'll find more meaning in the working world if you work hard for the most important things for your career success.

"Clear is kind"

I was given this career advice while discussing new career paths with a seasoned leader. He acknowledged my transparency in a way I had never heard before. Speaking up can often be outside of our comfort zone in the workplace and I speak these words to myself when needing a bit of encouragement.

"Outcomes over outputs"

or something along those lines. In our careers we often focus on delivering (outputs) over what it is we're trying to accomplish (the outcome). I interpret these words as working smarter and using real data to support decisions on how we use our time, support our teams, and build a better business.

"Keep a rolodex"

or the digital version of one. Building a strong network is crucial for your career growth and can open up the doors for new opportunities in the future.

While these tips certainly cover all the things which will help you succeed as you navigate your career, they can serve as small reminders when you might need it the most.
