'Be kind' may sound like no-brainer in the workplace, but I know we've all experienced unkind tendencies, such as; a snippy coworker, pushy partner, scolding from a more senior colleague. These types of behaviors breed a handful of many negative consequences on individuals as well as team culture.
A few key reasons to choose kindness -
You never know what someone might be going through. In the workplace it can be easy to forget that we've got an existence outside of the office. Showing an act of kindness can go a long way for someone who might be dealing with personal issues, such as; family trouble, loss, depression, or health concerns.
Impressions matter. Showing kindness is a positive reflection of you and your EQ. And truth be told, you never know who is watching. Your now partners may one day be your direct team members, or the person you pass in the hall may one day be your supervisor.
You get more done! we've all heard it that 'you catch more flies with honey than vinegar'. People want to work with kind people, they'll be more likely to take your meetings, offer a supportive hand when you need it, and speak your name in a room of opportunities.
Lastly, kindness promotes a positive work culture. Who doesn't want to work in a place where kindness is the norm, always! Kindness creates a place where people want to work, supports retention, and fosters collaboration.
“You cannot do kindness too soon, for you never know how soon it will be too late.” —Ralph Waldo Emerson
