Career development is an essential part of growing personally and professionally. The good news is that this is entirely in your control. Here's the top 5 things you can start doing immediately:


  1. Seek a mentor ask that leader you respect to be your mentor or use your network to help match you. Your mentor should not be your direct leader and ideally someone in a role, level, or team you may be interested in joining. Conversations should be development focused and someone you can rely on to provide advice and support as your navigate your career. Schedule time with them monthly and be planful with your time.

  2. 360 feedback 360 feedback is the act of gaining feedback from your leaders, team, and partners. Ask your leader to help you gather anonymous feedback on your performance and apply this feedback as you progress as a leader.

  3. Create a development plan create a plan on how you'll achieve your short and long-term career goals. Share your plan with your leadership and review on a regular cadence. This is also a great way to stand out amongst your peers during annual performance reviews!

  4. Continue to learn read articles, listen to podcasts, ask questions, etc. which help you reach your career goals.

  5. Run your own race don't compare your growth to others. Even better, celebrate and learn from the success of your colleagues.
